VA & SSA Ratings

Question:

Hello and thanks for taking the time for me. Last month I was notified by the VA that I am considered to be under "individual unemployability." However, my VA disability remains at 70%. As I understand it, because of the unemployability situation, I am entitled to benefits as if I were 100% disabled. This apparently carries over to some non-VA entities. If I apply to Social Security for disability payments, do they look at the 70% VA disability rating only, or do they consider VA unemployability sufficient for SS disability benefits? Many thanks.

Jim's Reply:

The SSA will look at the entire package...they know all about the VA benefits and will act accordingly.
