Step Four: How Does The Appeals Process Work?

Once your appeal is in motion, it can be difficult to keep track of your case – whether you are represented by a lawyer or not. Below are answers to some common questions.

 

Regardless of whether you have a lawyer or not, when you file your notice of appeal, the Clerk of the Court will assign your case a number – known as a docket number. The six-digit number will be different from your VA claim file number, your BVA docket number, your military service number and your Social Security number.
