Separation/Divorce

Question:

What are the laws for a dependent stay at home mom wanting to separate/divorce?

Jim's Reply:

Divorce laws aren't any different for a dependent spouse or a civilian spouse. The family court that will manage the case will be the place where all decisions are made. You must start the process by filing for divorce. Unless and until you file for divorce, nothing can or will happen.

  • PS from StatesideLegal: You can use the "Find Legal Help" map for your state to identify a LRS provider and ask for a low-cost consultation with a local attorney who specializes in divorce.  You may also want to check out the websites for the civil legal aid providers (LSC providers on the map) to see if they have posted self-help information about the divorce process in your State -- many provide simple explanations of the process and may even include the court forms.
