Va pension and SSI

Hello Jim, I am a Viet Nam era veteran and I am currently receiving a non service related pension. Before receiving VA pension,  I was getting SSI for a bad back. I just turned 62 in July and thought about collecting SSI early. I then found out that soc. sec. would subtract any money I receive from VA which would leave me with less than I am currently receiving. Is this true and is it also true that they can't t touch my pension if I wait until I am 65? Thanks for your help,,,,

The circumstances that surround individual Social Security and VA Pension benefits can vary widely from case to case so I'm reluctant to try and give you a detailed answer. My best advice would be for you to make an appointment at your local SSA office and ask them to help. I've found the SSA staff to be pretty good about doing their best in a face to face meeting. Give it a shot, you never know what you may learn.
