hematuria from radiation

Question:

I got a gross hematuria from radiation from prostate cancer.  Is this a secondary condition that a claim should be filed on? Thanks, Jim.

Jim's Reply:

Hematuria (blood in the urine) is a symptom of a problem, not a diagnosis of a disease or condition. Hematuria isn't uncommon after prostate cancer treatment along with incontinence and ED. Ratings are based on conditions that have been diagnosed by the appropriate health care provider. Hematuria would be secondary to the treatment you've had and would be rated along with the other residual issues you likely have. If the hematuria is diagnosed as being caused by another problem, then you may have to file for that condition.
