How long to receive recuperation benefit?

Question:

Former USMC vet. In june 2018 I had left shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff (service connected 20%), Surgery was performed at Tripler Army medical center, i was informed that recovery time could be between 6-9 months with PT. I requested for 100% temp disability in June. How long does it normally take for VA to resolve this type of request? and is there a chance I could be approved for the temp 100% , Thanks I look forward to your opinion.

Jim's Reply:

Yes, you should be eligible for the 100% recuperative benefit. It's really unfortunate that there isn't any sort of normal time range for the 100% recuperation benefit that we could reliably share. In some instances, it can be in place the next month when your usual payment falls due. At other times it may take 4 to 6 months or even longer for the accounting to be done and payment to proceed. There's never any rhyme or reason to any of it. You'll have to wait and see...after 4 months, you'll want to think about contacting your Congressional representatives.
