Is cancer treated as a temporary condition by the VA?

Question

Just went to DAV seeking to file notice of disagreement re: temporary 100% evaluation to permanent due to incurable metastatic prostate cancer which will require treatment for the rest of my life. They stated that VA's stance is that all cancers will improve and therefore they will never grant disability permanent unless it becomes terminal. Is it worth my filing Disagreement?  Thank You.

Your DAV representative is correct. Unless and until you are assigned to hospice care (that usually signals less than 6 months to live) the VA believes that all cancers are cured. Thus all cancer ratings are temporary, not permanent. Future exams are always scheduled. Filing and asking for 100 permanent will trigger another C & P exam and VA may find improvement and lower your rating.
