military connection to current thyriod problems

Question:

I served in the army since 1982 thru 1986. I was station in Germany and in va, as well as ft dix nj and south carolina. I was dx with thyroid nodule in 2015, but no one in my family have thyroid problems. I remembered that after I left active duty I stayed serving in the army reserved and a military Dr. revised my and noted that my thyroid was enlarged, he sent me for a test and it came out negative so I never have another test until 2015 which also came out negative, I went to an specialist were they found a lot of nodule especially in my left side. They did 2 biopsy and like 3 ultrasound. I just want to know if I can apply for military disability bc I think I have this since I was in the service.

Jim's Reply:

You may apply for a disability benefit. Since a lot of time has passed I can't predict the outcome but there is no penalty to file a claim. I explain the process here.
