Male with breast cancer

Question:

My husband (retired since 1982) who served in one of the presumptive areas in Korea and Thailand had breast cancer and a mastectomy and just finished radiation for prostate cancer (2018/2019).. I am having trouble getting the doctor at the cancer center to write the nexus letter. And, is it true that breast cancer doesn't qualify? Any advice? The VSO here is at the federal court house and they don't take appointments so it is hard to get in. Thanks much.

Jim's Reply:

If your veteran served in one of the presumptive regions, he doesn't need a nexus letter. His service and the diagnosis of the disease is enough to proceed to file the claim for prostate cancer as being presumptive to agent orange exposure. Breat cancer is not presumptive and he would been an indepependent medicial opinion to file for that condition. There are expert disability physicians who are featured on my web site who will be happy to tell you more about their services for cases like this. For now though, proceed to file the claim as a DIY effort, provide the documentation of where he served and his PC diagnosis and then think about the breast cancer.
