Just won VA disability for knee condition

Question:

I was denied twice for knee condition. Now, I have been granted.  What date is my back pay will be paid?

Jim's Reply:

Retroactive benefits pay begins the effective date of a claim. When a claim is denied, we're allowed one year to appeal and keep the original effective date in place. If you filed in 2010 and were denied in 2011 and appealed within one year and then were denied again but appealed within one year, the effective date would be the original date of filing. If you were denied but didn't appeal and opened a new claim, the date of the new claim filing will be the effective date.
