Issued ticket, court couldn't locate it

Question:

I was given a ticket after a wreck two weeks ago. I went to court and they didn't have any record of the ticket so I was let go and now the officer is calling me to re-issue the ticket and threatened to issue a warrant. Is this lawful?

Jim's Reply:

I'd have to say yeah, it's within the normal limits of what I know of such things. If the ticket went missing, well...stuff happens and government offices are no different. The ticket or some other record was found and now you're still on the hook for it. You can hire a lawyer and try and fight it or just go and settle the ticket.
