Hypertension

Jim,

the va has rated me a zero percentage for high blood pressure and im on three meds what do I do.

Reply:

There's nothing to do. Hypertension or high blood pressure isn't a disabling condition so long as your BP is controlled. Most hypertension today can be controlled with good medical treatment.

Having a condition and being disabled by a condition are two different things. A rated condition must somehow disable you before you are compensated for it.

The good news is that if in the future you ever have heart disease, carotid disease or almost any vascular problem, you can claim that as secondary to the effects of the hypertension and it will be service connected. That protects you in case you're disabled by a heart attack, for example. The 0% rating for high blood pressure is handy to have.
