How to protect my daughter's right to GI Bill benefits

Question:

My service member husband asked for a divorce. Can I ensure that he has transferred the post 9/11 GI Bill into our only daughter’s name? Even if it’s written in the divorce decree that it’s hers, can he still change it to benefit himself or his new kids? Please help me ensure that only our daughter can use it.

Jim's Reply:

This will have to be determined by the family court as the divorce action proceeds. If the court issues the decree as you wish and your ex doesn't honor that, you have the right to take him back into the family court to have that corrected. That's the only insurance you have.
