Hiring an attorney

Jim,

I read on your website https://www.vawatchdog.org/ the information on how to hire an attorney. I am considering doing so. I have Bladder Cancer, I an a Vietnam vet November, 1967 to December, 1968, as well as stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune January, 1969 to July, 1969.

When diagnosed with Bladder I filed a claim for Agent Orange exposure, this was denied the VA indicated that Agent Orange has no connection to my condition; I was however awarded a non service related disability pension of 150% and unemployable do to various other conditions, as well as 10% service connected for ringing in the ears. I have since received Social Security Disability.

As the disability was more money I notified the VA to discontinue the non service related disability pension, I was not allowed to keep both. I then learned of the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune and it is linked to Bladder Cancer and filed a new claim. After 2 C&P exams this also was denied. I am now considering hiring an attorney.

As I live on disability I have no means of paying an attorney outright. My question is do you know of a reputable attorney with experience in this type of claim.

Reply:

Attorneys who handle these sorts of claims don't charge you for the service unless and until they win the claim for you. Attorneys who represent veterans have strict rules for fees that VA monitors carefully.

As you may have noted, there are any number of good lawyers advertising on my web sites. If I were you I'd get in touch with two or three of them and see what they have to say. You can peruse the ads for VA accredited lawyers here https://www.vawatchdog.org/ and here http://www.jimstrickland912.com/ Prior to making contact I'd advise you to read this page http://www.jimstrickland912.com/How_To_Hire_An_Attorney.html.
