Have VA disability and applying for SS disability

Question:

Hello. I am a disabled vet rated at 100 percent by the VA. In 2014, I went in to have a celiac nerve block that went horribly wrong. Spent 17 out of 20 months in the hospital after being septic and in a coma as I had to basically learn everything all over again and spent months in a wheelchair. I am working and it’s getting to the point where work is getting very hard to do. My trauma surgeon feels it’s the trauma is kicking in and I should apply for social security. After reading different responses about the VA disability and filing for social security...I’m quite confused. If I apply for social security,  will it affect my disability from the VA? This trauma started after I retired from the military and it’s incurable due to the organ and bodily damage. I’m going to stop working very soon due to trauma damage and I’m just not physically able to work. Could I get social security or is it a waste of time? Thank you!

Receiving a Social Security benefit won't have any impact on VA disability benefits. Whether benefits will be awarded or not can't be predicted.
