Granddaughter facing divorce from service member

Question:

My granddaughter is married to a serviceman. He has an attorney for divorce and is only giving her money for food. Now he says he is keeping their child. She has no money for attorney.

Jim's Reply:

Your granddaughter needs an advocate. If she can't afford an attorney she should seek any and all sources of legal aid in her community. There really isn't anything else to be done and the sooner she finds some advice and counsel, the better.

  • PS from StatesideLegal: Use the "Find Legal Help" to look for legal aid resources ("LSC") in your State/community.  She will need to make the call since their services are based on her income and eligibility for free legal aid services.
