Attorney fees authorized

Question:

Jim, my appeal says afc authorized attorneys fees.  Is notification next?

Jim's Reply:

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking? When we retain a veteran’s law attorney we agree to certain fees to be paid from any retroactive benefit we may receive from an appeal. This is called a contingency fee and it means if we don't win our case, we owe the attorney nothing. VA oversees the process and usually pays any attorney fee directly out of the amount of retro determined to be owed.
