100% temporary disability for prostate cancer

Question:

Jim, Thanks for all you do for the veterans.  I was recently awarded 100% temp disability for recurrence of prostate cancer after radiation treatment in 2004.The award letter said I would be called for a c&p exam six month after treatment is complete. I haven't even scheduled hormone treatment with my urologist yet so how will the va know when the treatment is complete?  My urologist says that the cancer can't be cured only slowed down until in spreads from the prostate.  My question is will the va ever rate me p&t and also does me being seventy one years old play a role in getting a p&t rating. Thanks.

Jim's Reply:

As long as your physician says you have cancer, the 100% temporary rating should remain in place. There is no particular path to a permanent rating...many veterans die of or with their cancer that is still rated as temporary.
