Jim wrote extensively about VA and Social Security disability benefits. Before his recent passing, Jim was kind enough to answer questions from visitors on StatesideLegal.org here in Jim's Mailbag. Question:

Hi, I’ve been married 6 months and I’m currently going for separation from my active military spouse. How would I go about getting pay & or housing assistance while in the process of a divorce? I’m currently in AK & will be moving to TX ASAP.

Jim's Reply:

Under the circumstances, I'm pretty sure you aren't eligible for any sort of financial assistance...or at least I'm not aware of any benefits available to you. If you are owed anything from this brief marriage, the divorce court will determine that.
