Question:

I was Air Force. I flew over 1110 hours of combat flight time out of Okinawa as a North Vietnamese linguist handling multichannel intercept. I never set foot on the ground. I did however contract MS while flying those missions which shut my ears off sending me stateside and leading to a 6 month early out. Nam vet or Nam era vet?

Question:

If my decision letter says I’m being paid 100% for residuals due to lung cancer but doesn’t say I am P&T. Will I be called for C&P at some point? Thanks for your help.

Jim's Reply:

You may be...probably are...rated as permanently disabled. I can't be certain without looking at your file but to be rated at 100% for cancer is always a temporary rating with future exams scheduled.

Question:

Hello Jim, can you explain the 55-year-old protected ratings VA rule? Thanks

Jim's Reply:

You're a bit off track...there is no such thing as a 55 year old protected rating rule. The "protected rating" is a topic that creates a lot of confusion so let me begin by saying there is no such thing as a protected rating. VA can and will investigate possible fraud no matter how long you've held a given rating.
